How much does laminate installation cost in Ottawa?
Installing laminate in Ottawa typically costs about $2 to $4 per square foot for labour, or about $4.25 to $9 per square foot with the flooring supplied, before removal of old flooring and any subfloor levelling. See the Ottawa cost guide.
Can laminate go in a kitchen or basement?
Standard laminate has a wood-fibre core that can swell if water gets into the joints, so it is best in dry rooms. Some water-resistant laminates are rated for kitchens or basements; for wet areas, luxury vinyl plank is usually the safer choice.
Does laminate need an underlay?
Yes. Laminate floats over an underlay that smooths small imperfections and reduces noise. Some products have it attached. In condos, the underlay usually has to meet the building's sound rating (see our condo flooring guide).
Laminate or luxury vinyl plank?
